Small Bikes…. Big Balls!!

Peterborough Junior Motocross Club hosted the special and enjoyable “ East of England 4 stroke mini bike challenge” at the weekend as part of its annual East of England MX challenge weekend. Firstly thanks must go to Washbrook Farm MX for sponsoring the event and Tristan at Minibikepro for his help and advice.

The event proved a huge success with riders and spectators having a great time. The mini bike riders decided to run the full motocross track, which is much longer than they are used to, but just as technical!! This gave the riders the chance to open their bikes up fully and show us what they were made of. The full size MX riders and spectators were truly surprised, the bikes may be small but front runners have balls of steel, clearing the biggest of jumps and making easy work of the whoops.

The were two classes, open mini 10 inch rear wheel (any size engine) and open midi 12 inch rear wheel (any size engine).  The idea was for a chilled day of fun races, but believe me the racing action was full on for all of their three races!!

In the midi bike class we saw an amazing battle between James Brecon and Chuck Davis in race one and two. These guys were inches apart for the both races with amazing pace. In fact, they had faster lap times than some of the full size adult racers (mentioning no names!!). There was little to choose between these two, but Chuck managed to taste the fenland dirt on a couple of occasions handing the overall victory to James. In the last race Adam Lewis turned up the pace for a surprise win which he truly deserved meaning he pipped Chuck for second place overall. Dale Phillips had a really good day; just missing out on the podium despite two third place finishes.

In the mini bike class it was a flying Luke Coker that took maximum points with three solid first places. Believe me ..This guy can move on a tiny bike! Jamie Mclaren followed him home in every race for a solid second place overall. The final spot on the podium went to Paul Beale. He had problems in race one but pulled it back with two third places in race two and three.

This was a truly great day …. Watch the press…. PJMC will be back for more by popular demand. Anyone wishing to see the action for themselves just search “you tube for “mini bikes Peterborough”
